Abstract

I examine the nativist account of learning thought to be provided by Plato in the dialogue Meno and suggest that this interpretation is not uncontroversial. By disputing the innate-knowledge reading of the dialogue, an alternative account of learning is considered; this account depends on a social conception of learning in contrast to the native account.
