Abstract

Innovation and creativity in student learning is not merely an important goal that educational services hope to pursue, but also a relevant and important issue in the educational policies of countries all over the world. However, relatively few studies examine the key motivational factors contributing to innovation and creativity in student learning. Therefore, this study focuses on innovation and creativity in degree programs at the junior colleges in Taiwan, and the key motivational factors of “innovation and creativity” in student learning. This study samples a total of 265 full-time teachers from six of the fourteen junior colleges in Taiwan using stratified cluster sampling from northern, central, southern, and eastern Taiwan. A questionnaire survey method was adopted to find the results of this study, and the valid questionnaire recovery rate was 60.09%. This study produces the following results: First, implementation of innovation and creativity in student learning has currently reached a medium/advanced level in junior colleges. Second, task autonomy and group cohesiveness are significantly and positively related to innovation and creativity in student learning. Organizational learning reached a medium level of significant positive relation to innovation and creativity in student learning. Third, results show that task autonomy and group cohesion are key motivational factors for innovation and creativity in student learning. They presented a significantly positive relation with innovation and creativity in student learning, with task autonomy being a greater motivator than group cohesion. Finally, this study proposes suggestions for promoting innovation and creativity in student learning in Taiwanese junior colleges.
