Abstract

The Kenan Fellows Program for Curriculum and Leadership Development is an initiative of the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science at North Carolina State University. This highly acclaimed program offers competitive research fellowships to outstanding K-12 public school teachers in North Carolina, USA. The program, established in 2000, is an initiative that supports outstanding K-12 public school teachers to equip students to meet the challenges of a knowledge-based, highly technical, global economy. This article provides readers with an overview of the Kenan Fellows Program and highlights how one Kenan Fellow, Ms. Gail Holmes developed an effective lesson on the Cherokee Native American’s Trail of Tears using an inquiry methodology and a wide variety of technology tools.
