Abstract

The purpose of this study is to review empirical studies regarding child abuse among Asian Americans. In this study cultural influences on child abuse among Asian Americans are discussed. To enhance understanding of cultural influences on child abuse, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean value systems are described. Although there is much known about the frequency of child abuse and its treatment, there is little written about the concerns of families who belong to minority, ethnic and racial groups. Asian-Americans are a neglected population in terms of examining the patterns of abuse among families. Future research focusing on concerns and cultural factors of Asian American population is needed.
