Abstract

In addressing boys and literacy, the focus as it relates to connecting boys to books exists in the educational terrain. Newkirk (2002) noted that boys tend to be drawn to different types of literature. The researchers were interested in investigating what boys are inclined to read, and in identifying the topics, subjects, concepts and ideas that boys are interested in reading. The genres of books that appeal to boys also fall within the scope of the study. The reasons boys are interested in particular trends, themes and genres of books which they selected was also examined. This study also sought to determine the impact which the books boys read have on their thinking, actions and ambition to succeed in life. The study was also interested in identifying where boys read.
