Abstract

My study collects information of sati as depicted on epigraphical records in rural, central India. I my study, I surveyed some 500 village in this region to collect the information of these monumental expressions of the sati cult.The word sati expressed a romontic picture of a Hindoo wife who has burnt herself on the funeral pyre of her deceased husband. Much research has been done on India's sati custom but, until now, the ephigraphical records have been neglected by the historians (even though they are widely available).
