Abstract

Many researches have been done on Malaysian English. Some researchers highlighted the native language as the core influence of the formation of this so-called variety. Others identified the culture and setting as the influence. The emergence of Malaysian English is seen by some, as a normal phenomenon where the English language may transform into a different "form" when introduced to non-English speaking countries. This phenomenon does not only exist in Malaysia, but also in Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, India and Indonesia. The emergence of the Malaysian English is not the main focus of this study. The focus is whether or not the acceptance of the development of this variety may lead to the disappearance of the original form of the standard English Language.
