Abstract

The Internet is one of the noteworthy technological developments providing important opportunities, which can be used in educational institutions. Internet is a great chance for students, teachers, managers and even families to use to the outstanding information sources on the world. Even though the Internet offers great opportunities for schools, in order to improve the effectiveness of the Internet in the schools, it is important to determine how the Internet affects the quality of education. The aim of this study is to determine both positive and negative effects of the Internet on the quality of education in primary schools in terms of students, teachers, managers, and families. To gather data, semi-structured interviews, a qualitative research method, were carried out with the participation of 20 primary school teachers and 5 primary school managers in service in Eskisehir in Turkey. The obtained data was analyzed using NVIVO, which is a qualitative research analysis software package. It was found out that, having Internet access in primary schools affects the quality of education mostly in a positive way in terms of students, teachers, managers, and families. On the other hand, the Internet has also negative effects in primary schools. Consequently, in order to improve the effectiveness of the Internet in the primary schools, some suggestions were posed.
