Abstract

Over the years, the political, social, and economic life of Jordanians has been marked by international and regional events. Although some of these events have benefited the country, others have caused severe demographic and economic shocks. In an effort to address the economic crisis, Jordan has repeatedly signed loan agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The reforms and policies prescribed by the IMF have caused social tension and political instability in Jordan. As a result, the country has become increasingly reliant on foreign financial aid. This research shows that the implementation of fiscal decisions and policies related to IMF programs triggered political upheaval among Jordanian citizens. On the one hand, it increased their political participation, but on the other, it failed to address the economic crisis. Probable solutions to the current economic situation in Jordan include the adoption of fiscal policies that improve macroeconomic stability and the development of a liquid secondary market.
