Abstract

This paper proposes the author’s research on the correlation and accommodation of information, local culture, and digital design. Discussions of the role that information technology plays in local culture and digital design are presented. Concerning the local cultural aspect, information technology developments create virtual community such as Cosplay and Weblog are gradually shaping sub-cultures. Besides, the self-generating attribute of culture is analogous to the recursion call of a computer program. For digital design, the similarity between the analysis stage of information systems and the concept generation stage of design is indicated. The adoption of information technology to digital design such as collaborative design, interactive art is addressed. In the other hand, most information systems require graphic design for friendly interface consideration such as layout, menu, font and color. On the basis that technique, creativity and aesthetics are major factors for digital artwork, we consider that information discipline enhances technique, digital design conveys aesthetics and local culture cultivates creativity. In general, creativity is intuitively triggered and is the result of simplification and connection of distinctive affairs. We emphasize the aesthetics for digital artworks should be narrative as well.
