Abstract

Press cartoons with the essential purpose of deconstruction and destruction of the sacred aura of a person, a thing, or an event, use a number of stereotypes and symbols to be readable and comprehensible for readers. In war-time, satirical images in the press are often involved in politics, they gather momentum and follow the events of the war. Beside the people, they deride the enemy, reveal the problems of society, sometimes border on propaganda - serving the governments - and try to give courage to soldiers at the front.
