Abstract

This paper looks at the series of photographic collages entitled, Telegeneric Realities. This series explores the nature of the how the television news image is constructed from an artistic perspective. This series of works (41 images in total), is divided into two themes. One part looks at how the image as part of a narrative and tries to extract what parts of this narrative is emphasized and what is erased. The other part focuses on the visual uniformity found across media organizations from the West and Asia. In this group of images, stills from the BBC, CCTV (Chinese television) and Central News Asia are combined. The formalism of the in-studio shot is investigated. With this series disruptions of the original images are used to reveal how the original images are constructed and what they communicate to the audience.
