Abstract

Mixed methods research including a survey, interviews and focus groups were used to determine how sixty-three teacher interns from the years 2011–2019 used technology during a 4-month practicum placement in Shanghai, China. The empirical materials suggest that phone technology was used more in China than in their home country Canada both in schools and in their daily living. Further, the data suggests there has been a steady increase in phone use by interns in China over the 8-year period. Computers were used a similar amount in both countries primarily for lesson planning. Teacher interns found that the pedagogical style in China largely drove the types of technology that they commonly used in the classroom.
