Abstract
In recent decades, international tourism has become a major worldwide industry, frequently promoted as an opportunity to earn much needed foreign currency. The paper proposes to examine the effects of international tourism on post-colonial societies and to pay particular attention to the case of Cuba where the industry has had a significant impact on the recent development of this socialist nation.
