Abstract

A review of the information management behavior of knowledge workers in Kuwait indicated that they collect and receive information from a variety of sources. They keep selected information for future use by saving it in folders and linking through favorites and bookmarks. They were, however, not aware of the importance of personal taxonomies and categorization schemes for the organization of information. Their information management behavior shows that most of them are “pilers,” “filers,” and “spring cleaners.” While they use search and personal information management (PIM) tools to organize and manage information, saving information on different devices caused fragmentation of information. Workers were considering folder structure—a strategy of re-finding information—helpful to a certain extent. They expressed that training in information literacy (IL) at work would be helpful and suggested that IL should also include PIM to make it more effective for information re-finding.
