Abstract

There is increasing recognition of the importance of multi-modal thinking approaches, linking creative arts with technology, in order to generate learning strategies appropriate for transitional twenty-first century societies. This interdisciplinary focus, internationally designated STEAM (science, technology engineering, arts, mathematics), has generated exciting outcomes in the fields of arts, technology, and education and forms a key curriculum hub within the teacher education programme for specialist art and design teachers at Bath Spa University (BSU), United Kingdom. BSU’s STEAM Power integrates technology with art through cultural heritage partnerships, linking educational and museum-based contexts to generate qualitative interdisciplinary action research projects and empirically exploring heritage and culture with diverse participants through creative media and techniques.
