Abstract

Aerosols were collected using a High Volume Sampler (HVS) during September 2008 – June 2009 at Kolhapur city in Maharashtra, India, a location downwind of industrial cluster of Gokul Shirgaon and shiroli. The trace elements like Copper (Cu), Ferrous (Fe), Cadmium (Cd), Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn), Nickel (Ni) and Lead (Pb) etc. were analyzed by acid digestion thereby chemical characterization using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer & the sources were identified using a receptor model like US EPA Positive Matrix Factorization. This research paper describes the results achieved by chemical characterization and thereby source apportionment of aerosols and contribution of each trace element to the respective sources and also, covers the details on source apportionment methodology and resources for conducting an experiment.
