Abstract

Continuous Technology Refreshment (CTR) is a US Department of Defense acquisition strategy for spares applied throughout the material acquisition cycle to maintain readiness, modernize equipment, and reduce total ownership costs. CTR uses combinations of Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortage (DMSMS) resolution alternatives including Form Fit and Function Interface (F3I), emulation, substitution, redesign, and reverse engineering. This paper will describe the process that the US Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) is using for the replacement of key obsolete parts for US Army helicopter systems.
