Abstract

This article presents a proposal for renewal and change in teaching practices focusing on a combination of service learning and cooperative learning techniques. This proposal is the result of the interaction between both methodologies and their application in a didactic initiative involving a university, a state secondary school, the National Archaeological Museum (Madrid), Coslada and San Fernando de Henares City Councils, the elderly, Alzheimer’s patients and their families, and people with functional diversity living in the cities of Coslada and San Fernando de Henares. It revolves around the development of certain soft skills forming the basis of service learning and/or cooperative learning, especially critical thinking, personal and social commitment, responsibility, flexibility, teamwork, interpersonal communication, and creativity.
