Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the performance of a contemporary German rock band, Rammstein. The article begins by discussing the role of rock music in contemporary culture and the manner in which it relates to theoretical aspects in art, such as catharsis and the Dionysian. The analysis of Rammstein’s live performance during the “Liebe ist für alle da” tour aims to identify the effects the theatrical performance on stage has on the public. Also, the study explains the manner in which the lyrics connect to the band’s acting. The lyrics are analyzed from a lyrical point of view, interpreting the inherent poetry and symbolism. Concluding, this study presents a rock band seen as a sum of artistic occurrences, which creates a new form of catharsis.
