Abstract

Despite a continuous focus on work recognition in professional and academic literature, only a few researchers have published on this management practice. Measurement tools are scarce and clear guidelines to successfully implement these practices are even scarcer. Thus, for managers who wish to improve their organization’s recognition practices, it is very difficult to find out which key actions should be prioritized to make sure that chosen practices are adequate and efficient. This paper attempts to address those preoccupations by presenting a new measurement tool that has been developed and validated by the Research and Intervention Centre for Healthy Workplaces. In addition to the presentation of the questionnaire’s properties, its usage in day-to-day management and a combination of success factors from the scientific literature and field experiments will also be discussed. With the objective to use evidence-based data and translate it in simple recommendations, recent results from our research projects will be presented. These results shed light, among other variables, on an intergenerational perspective of work recognition, and its links with work climate.
