Abstract

How can public art and recycled art infuse education with new perspectives? This phenomenological case study investigates the question using qualitative methods to analyze the work of an artist, Steven Siegel. Siegel’s works provide inspiration, vision, and guidance for synthesizing these three domains. Using pre-consumer materials and recycled materials, he creates public art and site-specific installations around the theme of small parts creating a whole. Through personal interviews and an examination of his works, this research considers how this type of art could be used by educators to engage artists with schools and communities to foster a greater consciousness about our environment.
