Abstract

This paper analyses two Malaysian reality TV programmes applying Fairclough’s media discourse approach. The focus is on the portrayal of dimensions of Asian values. With reference to the various debates on Asian values, the arguments in this paper centre on the notion that despite the adaptation to global formats of TV genres, the core dimensions of Asian values are still portrayed. Meanwhile, the clash between the adopted values and the values of Islam and conventional Malay-Muslim culture is also highlighted.
