Abstract

According to Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) the number of forgery incidents especially phishing cases in Malaysia had enormously increased. This social engineering act which tricks someone into giving their confidential information is becoming a major threat in securing a person private identity. Therefore, this paper will discuss the challenges and impacts of phishing in Malaysia. A survey is done to analyze the respondents’ opinions towards phishing issues, how the phishing affected their daily operation, how they get to know about phishing, how they react to phishing incident and prevention levels in organizations. From the result, the mitigation steps in reducing phishing are recommended. Although the study was done in Malaysia, it is expected that the same pattern occur around the globe. This paper could be used as a guidance and recommendation to the public and any related sectors in combating phishing.
