Abstract

Pedagogy with a conscience gives hope for the future through responsible teaching. It is about teaching towards making the world a better place and enlists teachers who make it their responsibility to teach the person, and not just the subject. Students learn what they live, so pedagogy with a conscience emphasizes the education of the whole person above all else. Students who learn and live design as their cardinal direction are encouraged to pursue their graphic calling as they quest to rectify social injustice. A sustainable approach to design education must also prepare students for the responsibility of equalizing the graphic landscape of the future. It must instill them with a conscientious graphic voice, and the importance of caring about what they design. They must learn to curb their power of persuasion, and redirect their visual sphere of influence towards issues of social import.
