Pedagogical Changes
Abstract
The aims of this research are to identify and investigate (a) the main initiators leading to pedagogical changes—i.e. changes regarding various teaching strategies concerning students, academic content, and the teacher’s educational orientation, (b) the major causes that stimulate pedagogical changes and, (c) the dominant factors involved during the processes of change. 432 teachers in primary schools, junior high schools, and high schools participated in the study. The major initiator (40%) leading to pedagogical changes was an internal initiator, the teaching staff cooperating with the school administration. The main cause (26.7%) stimulating pedagogical changes was "Students` development"; the dominant supporting factor involved during the processes of change being "Cooperation between Colleagues" (M=3.07, SD=1.16); and “Inadequate Budget” the dominant hindering factor (M=1.87, SD=0.99). The accumulated data raised important issues concerning teachers in the process of pedagogical changes.
