Abstract

Peace education is now well recognized within international legal instruments as an important aspect of education. A great variety of theories, definitions and practices are referred to peace education. Since both “peace” and “education” are abstractions without any concrete meaning, it is not surprising that it is rather difficult to find widespread agreement about what peace education actually is. School is a place for learning. It is a place for systematic teaching and learning, learning about peace and human rights. School’s main purpose is to promote cultural skills to pupils. The overcoming of ethnocentric thinking and acting is part of this, as are the empathic perception of experience and the development of a multi-perspective attitude.
