Abstract

The general purpose of this paper is to provide insights on how painting can be relevant to the study of social memories and the shaping of national identities. By associating painting themes with the cultural and political experiences of a society, the author attempts to establish a relation between art content, social memories, and nationalist consciousness. To explore this issue, the author uses themes found in Cuban paintings.
