Abstract

This paper discusses the issues of knowledge ontology. The ontology is a foundation of all phenomena, produced by an entity, and it is related to all aspects of the knowledge society. The ontology of knowledge is heavily involved in the development of information and the information society. To put it simply, we can say that ontology addresses an issue of how informational objects are organized and embedded into the world. First of all, these objects are knowledge in the form of documents, databases, programs, and the institutions that use them, which are formalized on empiric and heuristic basis today. The understanding, achieved hereby, will make it possible to narrow the gap between the forms of knowledge used by people and machine forms, and will result in the acceleration of knowledge circulation in society. To solve this problem we need to reconstruct our understanding that will concern the whole vertical framework from philosophy to practice. We call this approach the“vertical integration of knowledge,” in contrast to interdisciplinary studies which create horizontal connections of knowledge between different areas: physiosphere, infosphere, and econosphere. In particular, it is critical to transform semiotics into a science about sign ontology. Multidisciplinary forums and research networks are the most appropriate resources for vertical integration of knowledge.
