Abstract

Life at nighttime in the outdoor environment has become more popular in recent years. One of the reasons is the changing of lifestyles that people have more working and leisure activities at night. To facilitate the outdoor night life, invention of technology for different lighting devices plays a very important role. Hong Kong is a metropolitan city which is famous in its night life and lighting. For the past several decades due to the social and economic changes, the lifestyle of the city has got significant change also. This paper first reviews the popularity of night life in general. Taking Hong Kong as a case study, this paper identifies the technology invention in night street furniture and lifestyle change for the past decades. The paper discusses how technology invention gives influence on daily lives of residents and activities of visitors, and vice versa.
