Abstract

Farm to School programs are growing in popularity, but little is known about the administration and governance of these collaborative undertakings, particularly at their formative stages of implementation. This paper explores a number of issues associated with implementing the Farm to School program in Douglas County, NE as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant. Through interviews with key stakeholders, we shed some light on the advantages, disadvantages, and challenges associated with Farm to School programs. The findings will be of interest to both practitioners interested in implementing Farm to School programs and to scholars seeking to understand the governance and leadership of collaborative endeavors.
