Abstract

Museum education programmes can offer unique opportunities for engagements with art: tours, sleepovers and hands-on experiences. Museum educators draw on rich potentials, and face unique challenges. Teachers enjoy, and increasingly rely on, those resources for informing their own arts learning programmes. This paper discusses some successful practices from New Zealand museum experiences in the field. It draws on analysis of observations of teaching sessions in art museum settings and extended interviews with educators to identify a range of potentials, challenges and strategies for museum educators.
