Abstract

Meta-theory of motivation shows that an employee’s motivation is influenced by the employee’s values and personality. When the employee feels that his personal values are recognized by the organization, he will find his workplace more meaningful. Therefore, the employee will be more productive, have higher commitment to the organization, and have more concern over his competency. Understanding employee’s personal values can help align these values with those of the organization management system’s. The purpose of this research is to further investigate into Indonesian employees’ personal values based on the cultural wizard model. The study was conducted through a distribution of questionnaires to 563 employees in Jakarta and Surabaya. The respondents were both on managerial and non-managerial levels. The results show that the Indonesian employees tend to be hierarchical, group focused, change tolerant, highly time oriented, value interpersonal relationships, indirect communication, and balance between work and personal lives.
