Abstract

With the rapid development of modern sciences and technologies, all kinds of data and information from heterogeneous resources can be dynamically accessed, converted and disseminated in the digital world. To meet the challenges of today's information delivery and dissemination activities driven by the Internet and the World Wide Web, more and more academic libraries around the world are seeking new innovative ways of enhancing and integrating their specific academic library information resources, services, and instructions for academic learners and instructors – Information Commons – a new innovative approach to assist academic learners and instructors to dynamically and interactively access, locate, synthesize, and transform information in service-oriented and user-centered academic learning environments. To review impacts of cutting-edge technologies and emerging technologies on dynamic, interactive, and scalable academic learning environments in the digital age, this paper explores key issues how to effectively and efficiently design, develop, enhance, maintain, support, and utilize academic library information commons to meet high expectations and demands for today’s academic learners. This paper emphasizes practical solutions how to leverage academic library information commons for the coming years of the 21st century.
