Abstract

Knowledge culture is that part of an organisation’s culture which deals with thinking, acting and feeling in particular values towards knowledge and its handling in the organisation. Research has shown that the knowledge of an organization can be essential for the success and failure of knowledge management projects. Several years of research in finding the “ideal” knowledge culture highlighted that there are clear indicators, which attributes of the knowledge culture can lead to success and prevent failures in reaching the knowledge management objectives. Based upon former research the paper shows the “anatomy” of knowledge culture, which structure lies behind it, which dimensions are important to look at and which attributes are connected with it. In consideration of these findings a knowledge culture maturity grid was developed and will be presented. The maturity grid gives organisations the possibility to analyse their knowledge culture and to decide on which attributes to work on before or during the implementation of knowledge management projects.
