Abstract

Purpose of the present study was to compare the knowledge of cardiovascular disease among university teachers in King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia. Eight seven teachers of (KFUPM) were surveyed with age ranging from 25-65 years (45.60±12.05). On the basis of age four groups were formed, 25-35yrs (n 24), 36-45yrs (n 17), 46-55yrs (n 25), 56-65yrs (n 21). Heart Disease Fact Questionnaire was distributed to the participants. One way ANOVA was used to compare the knowledge of heart disease among various age groups. Analysis of results revealed significant differences between different age groups [F (3, 83) = 5.088, p = .003] on knowledge of cardiovascular disease. Scheffe post hoc test revealed that mean knowledge score of 56 - 65 year age group (80.57±15.08) was significantly greater than mean (64.37±15.48) for 25 – 35 year age group ( p = .009). Mean score of 46 – 55 years age group (78.08±14.38) was also significantly greater than mean (64.37±15.4) for 25- 35 year age group (p=.027). From the results it can be concluded that with age knowledge and awareness towards cardio vascular disease increased and teachers with age of 46 or more possess greater knowledge of cardio vascular disease.
