Abstract

This article initially arose out of research dealing with the concept of spirituality, which suggests that tertiary students are deeply interested in the topic. However, not enough appears is known about how tertiary cohorts understand this concept. A project employing a qualitative methodology was initiated at a mid-range college in northern Israel. Purposefully selecting one cohort of fifty-two tertiary students representing both Jewish and Arab students, this group first answered a questionnaire that was followed up with semi-structured interviews with a core of ten students. The emergent themes indicated a striking similarity of understanding despite the differences in cultural and religious backgrounds. Clearly grounded in a “new age like” perspective, these students were deeply reflective and were able to identify spirituality as “personally centered and driven” awareness.
