Abstract

To make sense of life, whether general or singular, we rely on the two paths of intelligence and consciousness. Throughout history, humankind has used both to develop ever-greater skills in all fields of endeavor to adapt to new discoveries and innovations. The advent of exponentially increasing technological innovation has accelerated, broadened, and deepened the knowledge thus gathered and has transformed societies, requiring behavioral adaptation and the development of new skills. Today, however, the speed and span of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, not only as they stand but also as they progress, bring about discussions that are often loud and controversial. These discussions concern not only ethics and integrity in business management but, as some argue, also the future and existence of humankind as we know it. This article examines the relationship between intelligence and consciousness as complementary dimensions in the progress that hopefully lies ahead. It also examines how the management educational system is responsible for incorporating a better holistic understanding as well as the ethical, integrity, and social responsibility of the private sector, particularly in AI and social media companies. In large part, it is the task of educational systems to develop and activate a constructive relationship between the two paths of intelligence and consciousness, aforementioned, by developing curricula based on fundamental principles about the purpose of life.
