Abstract

Recent statistics have shown an increase in the number of disabled people around the world. Despite this trend, reality has shown that public and private exhibitions do not take into account the needs of the disabled. It is uncommon to find such events fully adapted without accomodating for a diverse audience. One important characteristic of the INFRA_lines project is to be fully accessible for the able and disabled alike, making this a truly universal exhibition. Keeping a tight and low budget, the curator used contacts with scientists within different research centers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) to help create the show. We developed new uses and applications to be used for the first time concerning artistic and heritage material: 3D reproduction, accessible audiovisual, braille materials, audio descriptions, special stations for the deaf, adapted signalization, etc. There was also a great effort toward the diffusion of the activity and the social transfer of the exhibit material. Finally, interviews about perception, satisfaction and expertise were used to evaluate the reception and the overall impact of the material. The essential message of the “INFRA_lines” exhibit was the possiblity of making inclusive, bidimensional artistic paintings for anyone willing to use view them.
