Abstract

The main product of urban design is the master plan that any project is built according to its information. A project which is still successful in its role in spite of passing time for sure has the ability to adapt itself to the changes happened through the cities and respond to the user’s needs. This ability to adapt shows nothing but the existence of hidden layers in a master plan. These layers contain some principles, and result in an endless design process, and make it timeless. In this research, the aforementioned principles are defined as hidden potentials, and their abilities are recognized as tools. All these issues were analyzed and surveyed in a pattern of a dynamic urban structure, the bazaar of Isfahan, as a sample of an urban spine, and the main pulse of the city, from different aspects, by keeping its original identity throughout centuries. In the next stage of this research, the researcher tries to study all kinds of stimulations and names them as hidden hands, which play a key role in activating the hidden potentials. The outcome is what the researcher introduces as the ongoing design process which results in adaptation of the design to its context.
