Abstract

The author is suggesting that an interdisciplinary approach is a requirement when dealing with harm reduction strategies related to substance misuse and mental health issues. The literature reporting on “safe injection sites” clearly demonstrates the need for evidence-based interdisciplinary modalities when attempting to reduce harm to individuals and society. Furthermore, interdisciplinary education, best practice guidelines and teamwork should be the driving forces when developing strategies and models of care, rather than ideology, politics, myths and hearsay.
