Abstract

In every traditional culture, plants have been highly valued for their nourishing, healing, and transformative properties. There are many powerful plants, which are known to transport the human mind into other dimensions of consciousness and have always been considered by peoples in non industrial societies as “plants of the gods”. But most of these medicinal plants have found an integral part of treatment of many incurable diseases. Many scientists, from time to time, have discussed the classic texts on the ritual uses of hallucinogenic or psychoactive plants. Historical evidence shows clearly the attitudes of Christians, Muslims and Hindus in accepting psychotropic substances in their own culture and tradition.
