Abstract

Globally, grandparent caregivers provide essential parenting and support to maintain family life for their grandchildren. Studies demonstrate grandparent caregivers sustain family functionality for their grandchildren often under onerous circumstances. To date, research on grandparent caregivers predominantly focuses on deleterious outcomes along with interventions to mediate them. By contrast, the present research study explored factors that promote positive well-being. Cross-sectional research using non-probability convenience and snowball sampling methods recruited ninety-four custodial and non-custodial grandparent caregivers. Findings indicate reported resources and choice to parent grandchildren promoted positive caregivers’ life satisfaction, and suggests further investigation concerning direct practice and research centered on factors that promote grandparent caregiver well-being, specifically life satisfaction, is warranted.
