Abstract

The very nature of educational leadership and education is changing because of the revolutionary nature of a knowledge economy. The knowledge economy rests on the unique ways in which knowledge creates value and results in innovation. Ideas create value that can be shared, is difficult to own, often uses few natural resources, costs little to reproduce and adds to the resource base of communities. Ideas are best fostered in environments where experimentation, collective conversation and risk taking are encouraged. Such changes imply not only a very different type of learning system, but one lead by contemporary educational leaders with a particular set of skills and global competencies including moral, organizational, pedagogical, economic, cultural, and information.
