Abstract

This study analyses the effects of environmental factors and the usage of technology on the performance of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). While doing so, the study uses the contingency perspective as the theoretical background. Environmental predictability and usage of technology are considered as contingency variables, whereas effectiveness and sustainability are used as performance variables. Moreover, the strategies and organizational structures of NGOs, their relationships with the contingency variables, and the performance indicators of NGOs are also analyzed within the study. The data gathered by using a survey delivered to NGOs founded by immigrants from the Balkan region in Turkey. The structural equation modeling method is implemented, from the data set generated from the survey. The results of the study indicate that environmental predictability and organizational structure are the factors with the most significant effects on both effectiveness and sustainability.
