Abstract

The strong association between Eastern European women and prostitution might not be breaking news nowadays, but it still covers hundreds of front-pages all over the continent. Between sexual exploitation and voluntarily prostitution, Eastern European women are caught in the middle of these images, whether they are true or not. The situation of the Romanian woman in Spain is mostly difficult because of the social problems that arose with the high number of immigrants and the cases of delinquency related to this nationality, concluded with rejection. As there were some cases of prostitution involving Romanian young girls, the label became a fact in many of the nationals’ eyes. Therefore, the marginalization process appeared and produced the isolated groups of immigrants who are not able to integrate in the society. This process of exclusion and isolation turned into a vicious circle of prejudice and verbal self defence, provoking rejection and impossibility of integration.
