Abstract

The erosion of biodiversity, global warming, and exploitation of finite natural resources put pressure on organizations to develop more sustainable methods of operation. The most pivotal challenge that firms face nowadays is involving every employee in organizations’ environmental sustainable activities. Workplace spirituality (WPS) facilitates employees’ psychology and generates tremendous enthusiasm and hope regarding environmental conservation (sustainability). Furthermore, pro-environmental behavior (PEB) is supposed to be positively related to environmental sustainability (ES). ES is a significant concern in the case of the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, which depends largely on natural resources, on the one hand, but fails to take green initiatives because of a lack of financial resources, on the other hand. Hence, the present study investigated the mediating role of PEB in the relationship between WPS and ES in the context of the Indian MSME sector. The study used a quantitative research design. A sample of 380 employees was selected using the convenience sampling technique. The data was collected with the help of a survey questionnaire, and the collected data was analyzed using the smart PLS software. The study’s results revealed that WPS positively impacts ES and that PEB partially mediates the relationship between WPS and ES.
