Abstract

The increased social concern for reduced environmental burden creates the need to identify indicators and factors related to enterprises’ improved environmental performance. This need is more emergent in areas with large numbers of enterprises, such as industrial estates. The current research identifies relevant factors by examining data collected from enterprises located in industrial estates of Greece. Environmental performance is accessed as a sum of other related variables, which gives a higher degree of credibility. The questionnaire used variables to build a multiple linear regression model, where environmental performance is measured as the sum of related variables. The results identify as positive factors for increased environmental performance the number of employees, the enterprise’s open culture, the use of an environmental management system, and the use of by-products of other enterprises. This factor also highlights the importance of industrial symbiosis.
