Abstract

This project is developing multicultural teaching and learning design project material for the interior design class in the United States. The main goal of this of this project is providing students with an overview of the international interior design project process with clients for understanding the historical and cultural background of design, developing ethical and societal implications of the international design industry, and developing design skill such as using metric scale, selecting traditional color and design forms that will allow students to contribute to international interior design projects in the near future. The hypothesis of this project is that the number of international design projects at United States is increasing very rapidly every year in the design industry. Therefore, higher education institutions need to develop international interior design projects for the future entry level designer. It becomes an important aspect for professional practitioners. Addressing the issue of international projects is a critical task that must be accomplished now for future interior designers. Students will understand the global interior design market, metric scale perception, and multicultural design issues. This project offers an exploration of the present design issues which are globalization and the multicultural experience at United States.
