Abstract

The shortage of home health care workers in the rapidly graying world is approaching crisis levels. The recruitment and retention of these workers is critical to the quality of life of elder community residents who require long-term care but prefer to remain in their homes. This case study provides an in-depth look at one US county’s five-year response to home health care worker recruitment and retention needs. The project demonstrates how a single collaborative effort might empower workers to create systemic changes. Content analysis of empowerment themes gleaned from a time-line of project activities points to elements associated with success and provides direction for future collaborations.
